FROM 1916 TO THE FUTURE In 1975, the Bon Ton department store had vacated this location to move to the North Hanover Mall and the owners of the building donated it to the Borough of Hanover. Helen and Arthur Lea Stabler purchased the building with the intent of developing Hanover's first multi-story office building, the Square Commercial Center. While the building was originally built in 1916, the Bon Ton made a major change to its appearance in the 1950's by replacing the original first floor facade with large display windows. The current modern appearance of the Square Commercial Center was created in order to have a complete architectural unit and to fulfill the request of the first bank to move into the Square Commercial Center for the building to look more modern. This type of facade change was commonly done in the 1970's. The Lower Level was designed originally as a "mini-mall" for small craft shops using a streetscape with each shop having its own "storefront". Later, we decided to concentrate on commercial office space, but the streetscape remains in the Lower Level. The First Floor includes a bank with an ATM, a restaurant and an office off our main lobby. The Second Floor is approximately 90% finished, the Third and Fourth Floors are available to be developed. Each of the upper floors contain approximately 5,000 square feet. The design and build out of these floors will be to suit the needs of tenants for each floor. The near term plan is to return the exterior of the Square Commercial Center to a more original appearance using National Trust for Historic Preservation Guidelines. This will include removing the facade on the upper floors and modifying the canopy and facade on the First Floor to fit in with the 1916 design of the building. We are currently developing plans for this restoration. We would be happy to show you quite a few pictures on display in our Conference Room showing this location at various stages of history since the late 1800's. With our smallest office starting at 120 square feet up to a possible combination of two floors for 10,000 square feet, finished and unfinished space, we have a unique capacity to handle your office needs. This could be an individual that wants to move their office out of the house, or the new entrepreneur that wants to start small, or a business seeking to locate a regional office in Hanover. We thank you for visiting our website! The possibilities are endless... |
